We are delighted that Hirst Wood Regeneration Group secretary, Pauline Bradley-Sharp, has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Awards. It is much deserved. In her role as secretary, Pauline not only handles the day-to-day affairs of the group but is also responsible for finding the funds for our work. She spends considerable time identifying companies and organisations who have money for community projects and she has an uncanny knack of persuading people like Biffa, Tesco, Skipton Building Society and so many more, that HWRG is the place for them to invest.Driving forceBut her role goes much further than the traditional secretarial duties. Pauline is the organiser of the many work parties and she makes sure the work gets done. She was the driving force behind the many weekends spent clearing the boggy, overgrown field that became the Nature Reserve. And as importantly she still arranges the work parties that keep it neat and tidy and such a great place to visit. And she’s not just an arranger. Pauline is always there, getting her hands dirty, digging and weeding as well as talking to visitors and spreading the word.Pauline Bradley-Sharp, B.E.M. has played a major role in making Hirst Wood an even better place to live and her award reflects this.
