HIRST WOOD REGENERATION GROUP
Saltaire Primary School take over their garden
Pupils and staff at Saltaire Primary School have been enthusiastic partners in the creation of Hirst Wood Nature Reserve and one of the first tasks they undertook was to create a garden built just inside the entrance by our dry stone wallers. Pupils planted it in school colours and it has become a much admired feature seen by everyone who enters the nature area. Special seats have been installed to make it an especially children-friendly zone and it is great to hear young people telling their parents how they helped make ‘our garden.’
Dry stone wallers created the garden (left) then, (clockwise from right) pupils planted it out; the plants started to show off their school colours; Mick lent a hand keeping weeds at bay; and head teacher, Mrs Stoker proudly shows off the garden to the Lord Mayor of Bradford on her visit.
