We regret to announce the death which occurred early on Monday morning at his residence, 45 Hall Royd, Shipley, of Mr John Bracewell, principal of the firm of Greenwood and Co, reed and Heald manufacturers, Well Croft.Mr Bracewell, who was 68 years of age and leaves a wife and three sons and five daughters, two of the sons being with the colours at the front, had only been ill in bed a week. He was at business as recently as 22nd June.He was highly respected in manufacturing and other circles where known and he was a member of the Shipley Bowling Green Club, the flag of which was at half-mast until Thursday when the funeral took place at Hirst Wood Cemetery.Shipley Times & Express 5 July 1918The remains of the late Mr John Bracewell of 45 Hall Royd, Shipley, took place at Hirst Wood Cemetery on 4th July.
The services at the house, the Parish Church and by the grave were conducted by the vicar of Heaton, Rev R Whincup, who referred to the family’s connection with that church.A large number of relatives and friends were present in addition to the family mourners; also deputations from Shipley Bowling Club, Shipley Liberal Association, Shipley Unionist Association, the Oddfellows and business circles. Numerous floral tributes were received.Two of the deceased’s sons were unable to be present owing to being with the colours.Shipley Times & Express, 12 July 1918Mr John Bracewell of 45 Hall Royd, Shipley, who died on July 1st, aged 68, left estate valued at £5,050 10s 3d gross, with net personalty £4,312 16s 1d.
