“The quality of work here is exceptional and the project leaders can be justifiably proud of the difference they have made. The energy and singlemindedness of the group is incredibly inspiring, particularly the way the local primary school has absorbed the resources made available by the waterway.” Awards Assessment Panel

The award was for the work done at Hirst Lock for the Bi-Centenary of the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, and especially for the partnership with Saltaire Primary School Pupils used the Bi-Centenary to study the canal, past and present, and with the guidance of local artist Sharon Snaylam, they produced the wonderful mural which has become such an admired part of Hirst Lock The trophy was presented at a gala dinner in Birmingham, hosted by the bard of Barnsley, Ian McMillan.
